Asheville Community Theatre Opens Nuncrackers!

"Nuncrackers is immensely entertaining. It doesn't get any better!" -- CBS News

Nuncrackers is sponsored by

November 14 - November 30 2008

The nutty nuns are back! Asheville Community Theatre will open Nuncrackers, the Nunsense Christmas musical, on Friday, November 14 at 8:00 pm. Performances will run for three weekends through November 30, 2008 and are held on Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. Asheville Community Theatre is located at 35 E. Walnut St. in downtown Asheville. Opening weekend of Nuncrackers will feature a complimentary champagne reception, a dessert tasting, and a talk-back session with the cast and director. All Nuncrackers special events are included in the price of a ticket.

In Nuncrackers, The Little Sisters of Hoboken have constructed a Cable Access studio in their basement and are launching their very first Christmas TV special. Things go wrong from the beginning: Sister Mary Leo, the school's resident nun-ballerina, has a backstage mishap, throwing a wrench into plans for a fullscale ballet. But the sisters soldier on through musical numbers that range from the silly to the absurd including “Twelve Days Prior to Christmas,” “Santa Ain't Comin' to Our House,” and “We Three Kings of Orient Are Us.” Nuncrackers is a merry and bright holiday show filled with hilarious gags and snap-crackle quips - and special surprise guests including local media and political celebrities!

Nuncrackers is directed by Jerry Crouch, who staged the smash-hit musicals Fiddler on the Roof, Annie, and The Music Man for Asheville Community Theatre. Nuncrackers stars Ruth Butler, Lisa Ross, Amanda Phillips, Eileen Kennedy, Heather Taft and Bradshaw Call. Also appearing are five local students: Emma Stoneberg, Summer Nordmeyer, Lexie Moore, and identical twin brothers John and Milo Norlin, who are making their ACT debut. The set is designed by Erinn Huntley, with lighting design by Brian Sneeden, and costume design by Victoria Smith. Musical direction is by Chuck Taft.

Nuncrackers will also feature cameos from local celebrities, some of whom are making their ACT debuts! Support your favorite by attending their Nuncrackers performance!
