Asheville
Community Theatre is proud to announce the second season of the
Asheville Jams concert series, which
will bring local musicians to the ACT stage. Since its inception,
Asheville Community Theatre has always been a supporter of local
talent. Stage productions at ACT have starred local actors for
63 years and the Lobby Gallery has displayed the work of local
visual artists for 7 years. Now Asheville Community Theatre is
excited to expand that support to showcase local musicians in
a concert series.
Asheville's own
Firecracker Jazz Band will bring their explosively
hot jazz to Asheville Community Theatre for a concert on Sunday,
February 8, 2009. The Firecracker Jazz Band is
a six-piece ensemble known for sounding great, looking stylish,
and getting the energy of the crowd fired up into a frenzy. At
clubs, restaurants, and parades all over Western North Carolina,
their romping rhythms inspire dancing, stomping, and an all together
good time.
The
Firecrackers are working the roots of jazz with a youthful vigor
that breathes new life into an old genre. The Firecracker
Jazz Band plays early "New Orleans" jazz and
Dixieland as well as other 1920's and 30's period pop, paying
homage to such greats as Jelly Roll Morton, Louis
|
Armstrong and Bix Beiderbeck. They
can rock out old school parlors and punk rock clubs alike, "thanks
to the spontaneous, Mardi-Gras-type atmosphere the group generates through
determined showmanship." (Tom Kerr, Mountain Xpress) .
